TRAILS CLOSED AGAIN.....LACK OF SNOW

Forced to close the trails once again. Just not enough snow fall and warmer temperatures are in the forecast. Sorry dudes...........

Please respect our landowners
Stay off closed trails

Did I really see the geese flying north?

So I am driving home from Albany on Friday and believe it or not, I saw geese by the hundreds returning to New York. It is still February, isn't it?

It was just another sad reminder of how bad, I mean really bad, this winter has been. Sure, we are sad that we can't be out on the trails enjoying our winter investments, but the damage goes much further.

Just take a moment and think of all of the local businesses across our area who depend on the snow and the people that it brings. The out of towners who enjoy our snow also spend much of their time in our local establishments. The restaurants, the bars, the gas stations and grocery stores.........the list goes on.

We also need to worry about how this is going to effect the local snowmobile clubs, their budgets and the State Snowmobile Fund (see below). So we urge you to please register your sled along with visiting our local businesses that support us and our sport.

Snowmobile Trail Fund Suffering

With lack of snow and Clubs not being able to open their trails, the Snowmobile Trail Fund is suffering. Many people just aren't registering their snowmobiles this year, which means that the Trail Fund is shrinking. Not very good news for the snowmobiler.

Local clubs receive monies to maintain their trails from the State Snowmobile Trail Fund. These monies are derived from snowmobile registrations. Many people wait to register their sleds until they can hit the trails. Unfortunately, this has a negative effect on local clubs. Without the monies from the fund, the Clubs are unable to properly prepare and keep up with the trails. These monies are needed for fuel for the equipment (groomers, chain saws, tractors, etc.) along with signs and other equipment.

We urge you to join a Club and register your sled today!!!!

Take Action: RTP needs your help in the U.S. Senate

The Recreational Trails Program (RTP), which provides significant funding for the purchase of groomers is in trouble in the US Senate! While the House highway reauthorization bill, The American Energy and Infrastructure Jobs Act (H.R.7) included the RTP program as a separate and distinct program funded as it has been in the past, the US Senate bill, Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21) eliminates the program. Without RTP, many clubs will not be able to afford a new groomer and our trail system will suffer.

The Senate legislation will be taken up shortly. Please take a minute to send a short and simple note (e-mail is quickest) to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Charles (Chuck) Schumer:

Dear Senator:

Please ensure that the Senate highway reauthorization act, Map 21, includes a provision
to continue the Recreational Trails Program (RTP).

Thank you,

Please respect our land owners

Without the cooperation our land owners, our Club would not be able to provide the trail system that we all enjoy. In order to keep our land owners cooperation, we need to respect them and their property.

Please respect our land owners by:

  1. Stay off all trails until trails are they are officially opened by our Club ( for trail conditions click here. )
  2. Obey all posted speed limits and other signs ( quite zone, hazards .....etc. )
  3. DO NOT LITER !!!! Take all of your garbage with you.
  4. Stay on the posted trail - do not make your own trail or follow short cuts.

By following these simple rules, we can continue to receive the continued support of our current land owners and hopefully gain the support of more land owners.

Franklinville Snowmobile Club thanks you for your continued support.
